Founded in 2005, Environmental Watch and Management Institute (EWMI) was created in response to the growing environmental concerns of the time. Since then, we have been dedicated to making a positive impact on the planet through advocacy, education, and community engagement.

Environmental Watch and Management Institute (EWMI) undertakes and supports research and educational activities related to environment, natural hazards, disaster management, climate change and community resilience.
EWMI aims to connect scientific research with public awareness and community action, with particular emphasis on issues affecting Northeast India and the wider region.

Major Project
Earthquake Education and Public Awareness: A Step towards Earthquake Hazards Mitigation in North East India
This project was supported by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India.
The project focused on improving public understanding of earthquake hazards, preparedness and mitigation in Northeast India. As part of the project, EWMI conducted 18 awareness camps across 9 districts, involving students, teachers and local communities.
The programme emphasized earthquake education, public awareness, preparedness measures and community participation to reduce earthquake-related risks.
Current Research Interests
EWMI is also interested in research on flood severity, spatial and temporal patterns of flooding, disaster impacts, vulnerability and community resilience.
The Institute encourages interdisciplinary approaches involving social science, environmental science, geography and disaster management to understand natural hazards and develop practical strategies for risk reduction and resilience.
